Storm Damage Wrecks Church and Home

Strong winds and heavy rains swept through Bangalore recently, causing damage to buildings and properties. Pastor Johnson's house and the main WWPSP Mission church at Yelchanahalli, on the outskirts of the city of Bangalore, were hit badly on the 21st of June 2008. The center wall completely collapsed, making the whole building unsafe.

By the grace of God no-one was injured as everyone had traveled to the orphanage at Kachuvadi for a prayer meeting. They came back to the devastation.

Builders had already told Pastor Johnson that the foundations were not sound and that the building would soon have to be knocked down and rebuilt. The roof has already been leaking for some time and the building is too small to hold all the people who come to worship on Sunday morning. That number is growing as there are not many Christian churches to go to in this area.

They are now faced with the reality that the building will have to be knocked down and rebuilt, but the finance is still not available. Plans to construct the new building (the prayer tower) have been underway for a few years now, but nobody has come forward to pledge any of the money needed to get started.

Pastor Johnson and Thankam have lost their home and many possessions and are having to rent another place nearby until the building is sorted. One lady from their church lives around the corner and has opened her home for services on Sundays. A temporary tent has also been put up to accommodate all the people that attend.

Please pray for all those involved with the Yelchanahalli church and for work to soon be started on the construction of the prayer tower.

Welcome

Welcome to summer and to our new look newsletter. The weather may not seem much like summer and this they know all too well in India after the recent floods damaged the main church building.

At times like these, it would be easy to fall apart and when we have crises in our lives, sometimes we just want to burry our heads in the sand. But God is our ever present help in time of trouble and He wants to lift us up out of the circumstances that surround us.

In India they are definitely not burying their heads in the sand but carrying on regardless and looking to God for their next move. They are looking at the positives of the situation, like how God spared their lives and made sure no-one was in that building when the wall came crashing down.

Sometimes life doesn't always go to plan, but God is there with us in every circumstance. He is our strength and help. Be encouraged by these words: and He said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness. (2 Corinthians 12:9)

Hitting the Target

With God all things are possible and we have to stand on the promises in God's word when seeing all the needs in India. The target of £30,000 to build the prayer tower can seem like a lifetime away but God has an abundance of riches that he wants to bestow on his people. £30,000 to God is nothing.

£750 is already available towards the prayer tower and the first target of £1,000 has nearly been reached. Setting goals and targets is a good thing and we all need a helping hand to reach our goals in life.

If you feel a burden for the people in India, we urge you to seek God as to whether you are the person to help these people hit their target. If we all join together and believe in these things and pledge our support, we will begin to see how amazing God is and what He can do.

Any amount will help in getting to the target. Don't be put off if you only have a small amount to give as it all adds up over time. If you can't give financially, then pledge your prayer support, which is equally as important. The other target of £1,500 for the mattresses is also a possibility. The first target of £100 has already been reached. It would be great if this amount could be matched by the end of the August and matched every month until Christmas when some mattresses could be given to the children as presents.

The plan is to eventually have proper bunk beds for the children but at least two more buildings would be needed on the orphanage site to accommodate the children. Buying some mattresses is the first target to improve the children's lives now and the building work is a target for the future. Step by step things have improved dramatically at the orphanage and step by step they will continue to improve with the continued support.

News in Brief

TOILET work was halted because of the cost of a septic tank. The money has now been sent over to India for them to install a septic tank and make full use of the recently built toilets.

POWER CUTS are common place in India, especially at the orphanage, being in a remote place. Ideally a new power line is needed at the orphanage to combat the problem. Staff at the orphanage would also like a gas connection to be put in place to enable them to cook more easily. They currently use 3,000 kilograms of firewood for cooking each month and a gas connection would be a better alternative.
